The meaningful items you invite into your space have a subliminal effect on your mood and wellbeing. Just as your most treasured possessions, childhood mementos and precious family heirlooms evoke feelings of connection and happiness,

the art which speaks to you and resonates with your soul will always bring you joy

I’m Sophie Taylor

I’m fascinated by the way in which people’s personalities and life stories are revealed through the autobiographical nature of their belongings—how the objects displayed in our homes reflect the patina of our lives and become timeless.

two things I know

As a contemporary expressionist artist,

art allows me a liberating breath of expression that words could never match.

As a FORMER THERAPIST AND HOME DESIGN enthusiast,

the art you bring home can facilitate your self-expression and story.

 My Inspiration

Wild and natural places, in particular the sensuous rolling hills and dramatic chalk cliffs of the South Downs, which I’m lucky enough to call home, seed my soul with inspiration.

The shapes and lines of the landscape.

The textures of rocks and tree bark.

The tracery of branches and the brooding sky.

I often let the feel of the landscape seep into my bones through my bare feet so I can bring it back to my studio.

“The Downs… too much for one pair of eyes, enough to float a whole population in happiness, if only they would look.”

VIRGINIA WoOLF

PROCESS

Once in the studio, I work intuitively and without a plan, building up paint in layers—each mark an emotional response to what’s gone before.

I draw much of my artistic vocabulary from the landscape, filtering it through my inner lens and allowing the distilled inspiration to inform my abstracted work.

The process is a portal to a state of flow,
a meditation… or a conversation with myself as I allow marks to be concealed and revealed.

Just as our own experiences have led us to where we are now, so do the thousands of meditative marks that make up my paintings.
